Taylor ~ Hengst Families
Janelle's father, Kenneth James Henry Taylor, was the son of Austin James Taylor, and Bessie May Einsig.
Austin was born to James Kenneth Tayor and Emma Jane Hengst.

Philip Taylor Family
-- Janelle's 5th great grandparents were Philip and Elizabeth Taylor.
On June 15th 1762 Philip Taylor of Shrewsbury Township, York County, Pennsylvania, was a cordwainer, and he sold land in Shrewsbury Township to Michael Summer. Philip then moved to Hopewell Township, York County, and his brothers paid him for his share of their father’s land.
On April 3rd 1801 John, Michael, Abraham, Jacob, and Benjamin Taylor, legatees of Philip Taylor of Shrewsbury Township to Philip Taylor of Hopewell Township 755.2.9 lira for the release of 377 acres in Shrewsbury Township.
Philip Taylor died in August 1794. On December 3rd 1799, a petition was established for Philip Taylor who died without a will. He owned 355 acres in Shrewsbury Township, York County.
Philip and Elizabeth had these children.
i. Philip Taylor died in 1815. He married Susanne. In 1783 they lived in Hopewell Township York County Pennsylvania.
ii. John Taylor died October 1st 1814 during the war of 1812.
iii. Michael Taylor (d. 1808), and married Magdalena.
iv. Abraham Taylor.
v. Jacob Taylor who had a son William Taylor.
vi. Benjamin Taylor lived in Hellem Township, York County. and had a son named, Benjamin Franklin Taylor (1837-1927) of Jefferson County, Pennsylvania. This is a photo of Benjamin Franklin Taylor's family.

Michael Taylor (d. 1808)
-- Janelle's 4th great grandparents were Michael and Magdalena Taylor.
Magdalena was born August 19th 1782. On March 29th 1799. Michael of Shrewsbury Township, yeoman and wife Magdalena, sold 110 acres in Hopewell Township to James Anderson. Michael bought the land from David Owings at a sheriff’s sale on September 7th 1798.
Michael may have died in 1808, and is buried in the Shrewsbury Lutheran Church cemetery. Magdalena died June 7th 1847, at the age of 64 years, 9 months, and 19 days. She was laid to rest in the Shrewsbury Lutheran Church cemetery.
Michael and Magdalena had these children:
i. George W. Taylor (1777-1858)
ii. William H. Taylor.
iii. Michael Taylor. In 1780, during the Revolutionary War, Michael was attached to the 5th battalion of Shrewsbury Township, York County Militia, 5th Company, under the command of Henry Ferree.
George W. Taylor (1777-1858)
-- Janelle's 4th Taylor great grandparents were George W. Taylor and Mary Schwartz (Swartz).
George W. Taylor was born December 25th 1777. He lived in the Shrewsbury and Hopewell Townships of York County Pennsylvania. George married Mary Schwartz (Swartz), whose father was Henry Schwartz, a farmer from the Shrewsbury and Hopewell Townships of York County Pennsylvania.
On March 24th 1804 George Taylor of Hopewell Township, yeoman, and wife Mary: to John Ruhl Jr.: for 562.10.0 Lira, the preceding tract.
On February 27th 1830 George Taylor Sr. of Shrewsbury Township and wife Mary: to Catherine Stermer: for $45.00: 2 acres, 148 perches, part of land bought April 17th 1813 from John Seitz and wife Eva.
George died July 26th 1858, at the age of 80 years, 7 months, and 1 day. He was laid to rest July 28th 1858 in the Lutheran Cemetery Shrewsbury York County Pennsylvania.
Children of George and Mary Taylor:
i. George K. Taylor who was born in 1800.
ii. Henry Taylor (1802-1868). He married Barbara.
iii. John Taylor (1806-1872). He married Sara Folcommer.
iv. Elizabeth Taylor who married John Anstine.
v. Mary Taylor who married Jacob Stiffler.
vi. Julianne Taylor who married Daniel Sweitzer.
vii. Lydia Taylor who married Samuel Shaffer.
viii. Jane Taylor who married Charles Hummel.
John Taylor (1806-1872)
-- Janelle's 3rd great grandparents were John Taylor and Sara Folcommer.
John Taylor was born March 13th 1806 in Shrewsbury Township, York County, Pennsylvania. He married Sarah Folcommer, who was born December 29th 1810 in York County. They would live in Codorus and Shrewsbury Townships of York County Pennsylvania.
John died Feburary 12th 1872. He was laid to rest at the Dallastown Union Cemetery Dallastown, York County.
-- John’s will was written on February 5th 1872, and probated February 17th 1872. His wife Sara Folcommer and Noah Flinchbaugh were the executors.
After John died, Sarah was living with her daughter, Elizabeth Flinchbaugh, in Spring Garden Township, York County. Sarah died November 29th 1893 at the age of 82 years, 11, months, and 0 days. She was laid to rest next to her husband in the Union Cemetery.
In John's will the following children were identified.
i. Henry F. Taylor (1830-1912). He married Anna Y. Keeney.
ii. Levi (Leio) Taylor was born about 1832 in York County. In 1860 he lived with his wife Mary in York Township, York County Pennsylvania. Mary was born about 1841 in Pennsylvania. They may have moved to Ohio, and then to Abilene Kansas between 1864 to about 1867. On March 1st 1867, the family lived in Grant, Dickinson County Kansas.
iii. Leah Taylor was born August 11th 1834 in York County. She married J. Samuel Fiddler
iv. Sarah Taylor was born August 5th 1838 in York County. She married Daniel Flinchbaugh
v. Elizabeth Taylor was born in August 26th 1841 in York County. She married Noah Flinchbaugh of York.
vi. Mary A. Taylor was born in August 1844 in York County. She married John Poet of Red Lion, York County.
vii. John W. Taylor was born September 30st 1847 in York County. He died August 28th 1865.
Henry F. Taylor (1830-1912)
-- Janelle's 2nd great grandparents were Henry F. Taylor and Anna Y. Keeney.
Henry F. Taylor was born March 14th 1830 in Shrewsbury Township, York County, Pennsylvania. He married Anna Y. Keeney on January 15th 1854 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Shrewsbury, Shrewsbury Township.
Anna was born on April 7th 1821 in Shrewsbury Township, York County Pennsylvania to John Keeney, who was born in Pennsylvania.
At the time of their marriage, Henry and Anna both lived in Shrewsbury Township, where Henry worked as a day laborer and farmer. Henry also worked for the United States detective service for many years, and served as justice of the peace in York county for several terms. The family eventually came to live in Dallastown York County.
Anna died April 7th 1899 at the age of 78 years, 0 months, and 0 days. Anna was laid to rest with next to her husband in the Union Cemetery, Dallastown, York County Pennsylvania.
Henry died on September 19th 1912, at the age of 82 years, 6 months, and 5 days in Dallastown York County Pennsylvania. He was laid to rest in the Union Cemetery, Dallastown, York County Pennsylvania. He was laid to rest in the Union Cemetery. His son Daniel was the informant on Henry’s death certificate.
Henry and Anna had six children, and by 1907, four were still living.
i. Unknown child died prior to 1860.
ii. Sarah J. Taylor was born July 30th 1855 in Shrewsbury Township. Sarah died unmarried on November 20th 1898. She was laid to rest next to her parents in the Union Cemetery, Dallastown, York County Pennsylvania.
iii. Lydia Ann Taylor was born about August 15th1861 in York County Pennsylvania. She married Benjamin F. Barshinger.
iv. William Henry Taylor (1864). He married Laura E. Slusser.
v. Daniel K. Taylor (1864-1939). He married Lovina E. Hildebrand
vi. James Kenneth Taylor (1865-1941). He married Emma Jane Hengst.
James Kenneth Taylor (1865-1941)
-- Janelle's great grandparents were James K. Taylor and Emma J. Hengst.
James Kenneth Taylor was born October 1st 1865 to Henry F. Taylor and Anna Y. Keeney in Shrewsbury Township, York County Pennsylvania. He was baptized January 3rd 1892 by Rev J.R. Jones of Innersville (known today as Spry) York County Pennsylvania.
James married Emma Jane Hengst on July 13th 1886 by Rev. Niles. They applied for the marriage license on July 10th 1886. ,br>
Emma was born November 19th 1857.
The family lived in Glen Rock Shrewsbury Township, Innerville, Paradise, and York, York Township, all in York County Pennsylvania. He also lived at 705 Chestnut Street in the city of York. In 1920 Edna, Hellen, and Austin were the only children that were not living with the family. By 1930 James owned a business, and worked for the York Daily.
Emma was 76 years, 8 months, and 26 days when she died August 14th 1934. She was laid to rest with her husband in the Yoe Union Cemetery (6C 10), Yoe Borough, York Township, York County.
After Emma died, James may have married Margaret, who was 54 in 1940,and in 1935 lived in Fredrick County Maryland.
James was 76 years old when he died January 1st 1941. James was laid to rest in the Yoe Cemetery, Yoe Borough, York Township, York County.
All of the James and Emma Taylor children's names, spelling, birth and baptized dates were obtained from the James and Emma Taylor Family Bible.
i. Ada Idella Taylor was born December 18th 1886.

iii. Edna Grace Taylor was born July 3rd 1892. She married John J. Faller
iv. Florence Estella Taylor was born November 21st 1894. She married Erwin Edward Young
v. Mabel Minerva Taylor was born April 21st 1896. She married Earl Izer.
vi. Helen May Taylor was born November 8th 1897, and died 8 hours after birth.
vii. Emma Leonia Taylor was born December 22nd 1898. She married Harry N. L. Shearer.
viii. Herold DeWitt Taylor was born February 17th 1901. He married Verna E. Rupp.
ix. Dwight Clement Taylor was born January 9th 1903. He married Alverta.
x. Kenneth Hengst Taylor was born February 22nd 1904. He married Margaret M.
xi. Margurite Doretha Taylor was born November 22nd 1905. She dward Melvin Weber Jr.
xii. Francis John Henry Taylor was born April 6th 1907. He married Alverta I. Geesey.
Austin James Taylor (1889-1974)
-- Janelle's grandparents were Austin James Taylor and Bessie May Einsig.
Austin James Taylor was born April 17th 1889. He married Bessie May Einsig, and they applied for their marriage license and married on the same day, September 2nd 1916.
Bessie May Einsig was born July 18th 1892 to John Henry Einzig and Mary Anna Schleich. Bessie was baptized at 1:00 P.M. at the Christ Lutheran Church Parsonage on March 3rd 1893.
Austin was a printer, and a partner with his brother, Herald Taylor, in the Taylor and Sons Printers located at 872 Glen Place in York Pennsylvania. Austin and Bessie lived at 814 Wallace Street in York. He and Bessie were members of the Christ Lutheran Church in York.
Bessie died in 1973, and was laid to rest in space 3, Section E, Lot 313, West 1/2 of the Mt. Rose Cemetery, York Pennsylvania.
Austin was 85 years old when he died 9:10 p.m. Tuesday, at the York Hospital on July 16th 1974. He was laid to rest next to Bessie in the Mt. Rose Cemetery, Space 4, Section E, Lot 313, West 1/2, of the Mt. Rose Cemetery.
-- At the time of Austin’s death in 1974, his sister Ada Vaughn was living in Virginia; Emma Shearer was living in Baltimore Maryland; Mabel Izer was living in Middletown New York; and Margurite Weber, Dwight and Herald were living in York Pennsylvania.
Austin and Bessie had three children.
i. Mildred May Taylor was born April 1st 1918 in the city of York, York County Pennsylvania. She died July 17th 1919, and was laid to rest in the Mount Rose Cemetery, West 1/2 Lot 313, Section E Deed #498, York Pennsylvania.
ii. Charlotte May Taylor was born 1919 in York, York County Pennsylvania. She married Donald Wilt, and they had two boys: Donald and Timothy Wilt.
iii. Kenneth James Henry Taylor (1921-1998). He married Jane Alice Hines.
Kenneth James Henry Taylor (1921-1998)
Kenneth (Bud) Henry James Taylor was born August 7th 1921 in York, York County, Pennsylvania. He was baptized February 18th 1922.
Ken married Jane Alice Hines, who he later divorced in 1972. Ken would later meet and marry, Maxine, in 1978, who was born July 28th 1929, in Hanover, to Harry W. Livelsberger and Sadie J. Klunk. Ken was a printer, and later in life a janitor for the City of York School District. He would live near his sister on Albemarle Street, York Pennsylvania.
Ken died October 12th1998, and was laid to rest in the Mount Rose Cemetery, York, York County Pennsylvania. Ken and Jane Taylor lived in Mount Joy and Elizabethtown, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
Ken and Jane Taylor had two daughters.
i. Janelle Aileen Taylor was born November 10th 1953 at the Lancaster City Hospital, Lancaster County Pennsylvania. Janelle attended Elizabethtown High School, and Shippensburg College in Shippensburg, Franklin County Pennsylvania.
While there she met Robert (Boog) Calvin Graham, who she would later marry on October 13th 1977 in Hummelstown, Dauphin County Pennsylvania. Together they had two sons: Justin Taylor Graham, and Ian Robert Graham. Janelle and Boog live in York Springs, York County Pennsylvania.
ii. Susan Lynn Taylor was born December 16th 1954 at the Lancaster City Hospital, Lancaster County Pennsylvania. Sue attended Elizabethtown High School, and later married Steven Waller of Lancaster Pennsylvania. They live in Conestoga, Lancaster County Pennsylvania. Steve and Sue have two daughters: Mallory Waller, and Stephanie Waller
